Mold Remediation
Removal of mold-damaged drywall, insulation and finishes under containment, drying the space, and fixing the moisture source so it does not come back.
Published Calgary-area ranges: small jobs about $500 to $1,500, a mid-sized basement wall $1,800 to $6,000, and a whole basement, crawlspace or attic $3,000 to $15,000 or more. The moisture fix is what keeps it from returning.
Find an Abatement ContractorAbout Mold Remediation
Remediation is the cleanup once the water problem is understood. Small patches, one to three areas each under a square metre, are something Health Canada says a healthy person can clean with water and dish detergent, wearing safety glasses, an N95 respirator and household gloves. Medium and extensive growth is where a contractor earns the fee: Alberta Health Services says porous materials such as drywall, carpet and ceiling tile typically have to be removed rather than cleaned, and the CMHC guide says the largest jobs should be handled by qualified and trained mould remediation contractors.
A proper job seals the work area, runs air scrubbers, removes the damaged material in bags, cleans and dries what stays, and only then rebuilds. The part that decides whether the mould returns is the moisture fix: the leaking pipe, the grading, the sump, the exhaust fan, the vapour barrier. A quote that does not name the moisture source is not a remediation quote.
There is no licence, certificate or notification requirement for mould remediation in Alberta, and the industry standard often cited, IICRC S520, has no legal status here. That puts the checking on you: ask what the containment and air filtration will be, how the moisture problem is being corrected, what is being removed versus cleaned, and what a post-remediation check will show. Published Calgary-area prices read in September 2026 run about $500 to $1,500 for a small job, $1,800 to $6,000 for a mid-sized basement wall, and $3,000 to $15,000 or more for a whole basement, crawlspace or attic.
