About Calgary Mold Remediation
Calgary's housing stock is the reason this site exists. Alberta's own OHS bulletin says a building put up before 1990 has a higher chance that some of its materials contain asbestos: drywall mud, stipple and popcorn ceilings, vinyl floor tile and sheet flooring, pipe and duct insulation, stucco and siding, and the vermiculite poured into attics. Add basements that take on water in the spring melt and attics that condense in the cold, and mould follows. Most homeowners meet all of this in the middle of a renovation, when a wall is already open.
The rules are also unusual. There is no contractor licence for asbestos abatement or mould remediation in Alberta. What the law requires sits with the employer: government-approved asbestos worker cards for every worker who enters a restricted area, a notification to Alberta OHS at least 72 hours before work that may release fibres, controlled work areas and sealed, labelled waste. The City of Calgary adds its Asbestos Abatement Form before a permit is released for a pre-1990 building and accepts asbestos waste at Shepard landfill only. None of that is explained on a contractor's quote, so we explain it here.
Calgary Mold Remediation is a matching service, not an abatement company. We do not do testing, removal or remediation work and we do not employ tradespeople. You tell us what you found or suspect, and we send your request to local abatement and remediation contractors listed in the Calgary Construction Network directory. They reply to you by email. We do not screen or verify them, and we say so, which is why every page tells you what to check yourself.
